The port communities of both ports meet to promote the European Atlantic Corridor Southwest of the Peninsula

Huelva, 29th March 2022. A delegation from the Port of Huelva, led by her president, Pilar Miranda, has visited the Port of Sines (Portugal), accompanied by technicians and representatives of different companies from the port community, the Association for the Commercial Promotion of the Port of Huelva (HuelvaPort), the Chamber of Commerce of Huelva and the Association of Chemical, Basic and Energy Industries (AIQBE), where they were informed of the main growth projects being developed by the Portuguese port, including the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) and analysed the possibility of carrying out projects related to the European Atlantic Corridor in the South West of the Peninsula.

The President of the Port of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, stated that “we have accepted the invitation of the President of the Port of Sines to return the visit he made to us last summer and to find out about the progress and projects being carried out by this important port. We went to Sines together with the presidents of the Chamber of Commerce and HuelvaPort, AIQBE and companies from the port community to promote the European Atlantic Corridor”.

During the visit, the delegation of the Port of Huelva was received by the president of the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve (APS), José Luis Cacho, who had previously made an institutional visit to the Port of Huelva in June 2021.

The president of the Port of Sines stated that “we are grateful for the visit of the delegation from the Port of Huelva and we hope that this will be the start of a joint cooperation that will contribute to the development of the regions of Andalusia, Extremadura, Alentejo and Algarve”.

The President of the Huelva Chamber of Commerce, Daniel Toscano, emphasised “the importance of this type of meeting, as the future of intermodal transport and international logistics requires joint working channels that favour it. We are grateful for the invitation from the Port of Sines, the creation of synergies and cooperative work has always been and will always be the priority of the Huelva Chamber of Commerce and this type of meeting allows us to position ourselves in the Iberian territory and open up possible channels of intercommunication of common interest”. Likewise, Daniel Toscano has shown that “the Chamber of Commerce is already working to present a continuation of the Focomar project, an initiative financed by the Interreg community funds, which already obtained important results in its first edition”.

For his part, the president of HuelvaPort, Antonio Ponce, stressed the importance of organising joint actions between the Port and the companies of the port community to continue generating synergies, which will have an impact on the creation of new projects for the benefit of the entire port community.

Likewise, Pilar Miranda was accompanied by the director of the Port of Huelva, Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio, and the head of the Business and Commercial Development Department, Jaime Beltrán.
