The President of HuelvaPort, Antonio Ponce Fernández, was present at King Felipe VI’s visit to Sanlúcar de Barrameda on 25th March. The reasons of the visit to this city have a strong historical character, since 500 years ago the first expedition that would sail around the world left from the port. In line with this anniversary, this year the city has been awarded the distinction of Spanish Capital of Culture.

Throughout the day, Felipe VI visited the Nao Victoria, a replica of the ship captained by Juan Sebastián Elcano which completed the first round-the-world voyage between 1519 and 1522. The ship, which is docked at the Bonanza dock, is an exact replica, 26 metres long and 6.70 metres wide.

After his visit to the Nao, Felipe VI held a meeting with the members of the Board of Trustees of the Nao Victoria Foundation. This non-profit organisation specialises in the promotion and development of events through its replicas of historic ships (Nao Victoria, El Galeón, Nao Santa María and the Nao Victoria 500) in ports all over the world.
