The new 550 metre extension will increase the Port’s current capacity by a factor of five

The Port of Huelva is committed to diversifying its business area. The Port of Huelva Authority wants to grow in fields beyond its traditional strengths such as liquid and solid bulk. For this reason, its objective is to develop its capacity as an intermodal node linked to the Atlantic Corridor.

Huelva has a unique geographical location and has enough land to develop projects, although as its president recalled, there is not land for as many interests as they arrive.

One of the axes of its future growth must be the transport of containers. To this end, it presented an extension of the South Wharf this Friday that will allow it to multiply its merchandise transfer capacity by five. It is an investment of 40 million euros thanks to which it incorporates an extension of more than  500 meters for berths for large ships. In addition, in the medium term it will increase the draft of the vessels to offer unloading points to the largest maritime container ships.

The expansion is located just over a kilometer from the new passenger terminal, so it is integrated into the entire expansion area of the Port of Huelva.
