Renfe expects to receive the first wagons to operate this service in the third quarter of next year
The Port Authority of Huelva plans for the railway motorway operated by Renfe and which will link it to Madrid, Zaragoza and the French border to start in the first quarter of 2025. This was announced by the head of the Business and Commercial Development Department of the Port of Huelva, Jaime Beltrán, during the conference ‘Port-Railway-City and Territory in Andalusia’, organised by the School of Civil Engineers of Granada, the Association of Civil Engineers of Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla and the Spanish Transport Association (AET).
The work to be carried out on the section between the port of Huelva and Cordoba on the infrastructure is minimal.
Beltrán has highlighted that “the third track of the railway terminal of the South quay of the port of Huelva, which will provide service to this railway motorway, is in the awarding phase”. He also reminded that Renfe “is already investing in the rolling stock necessary for this connection”. In this sense, he indicated that the first carriages “will be delivered in the third quarter of 2024”. Regarding the same, the head of Business and Commercial Development of the port of Huelva has specified that they will be for P400 trailers, “unlike the motorway that will start in Algeciras, where P420 will be used”. Likewise, he explained that both rail motorway services “share the line from Cordoba to Madrid and Zaragoza”.
