The movement of ro-ro cargo in the port of Huelva has grown by 12%.
The execution of the works for the new double ro-ro ramp for the berthing of ferry-type vessels at the South Wharf of the Port of Huelva is progressing favourably. In its commitment to offer competitive services in response to its growth expectations, the Port of Huelva is going to set up this new platform, which will be added to the existing one, enabling the operation of four ferry-type vessels at the same time, where it embarks goods in ro-ro cargo on trucks and trailers, which are transported on the vessels that carry out the regular maritime services between Huelva and the Canary Islands.
After starting work in January 2023, it is scheduled to be completed this summer. The planned investment exceeds 19.4 million euros. This action has benefited, along with other projects being carried out in the Port of Huelva, from an allocation from the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), with the aim of promoting the improvement of multimodality and the decarbonisation of freight transport.
The president of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, after visiting the works accompanied by the head of the Infrastructure Department of the Port of Huelva, Alfonso Peña, said that this action “will enhance the current connections of the Port of Huelva, in addition to facilitating and accelerating the implementation of new shipping companies, which operate to other destinations in Europe and with third countries. In this way, we continue to promote the competitiveness of the Port of Huelva as an intermodal node of reference in south-west Europe”.
