Renfe will have specialised wagons for loading semi-trailers on Iberian width to carry out, initially, a daily round trip between Huelva and Madrid.

The president of Renfe, Raül Blanco; the president of Adif, María Luisa Domínguez; and the president of the Port Authority of Huelva (APH) Manuel Alberto Santana, have signed this morning at the International Logistics Exhibition (SIL), which is being held in Barcelona, an action protocol for the implementation of a Railway Freeway in Iberian width between Huelva and Madrid and its future extension to Zaragoza.

The aim of the protocol is to promote the efficient transport of goods by rail, by means of loading semi-trailers coming from the road onto the train, thus providing the Huelva-Madrid-Zaragoza Corridor, on conventional gauge, with the maximum railway use. Likewise, the aim is to contribute to generate economic activity for the operation of the intermodal terminals at these origins/destinations and to boost logistics and railway activity with the maximum guarantees of safety and service quality.
