The project includes the construction of 600 subway parking spaces, of which 18 will be for people with reduced mobility.
The project will be carried out from the Aqualón shopping center to the Muelle de la Compañía Río Tinto traffic circle, and the execution period for the drafting of the project will be four months.
According to the president of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, the project includes the construction of some 600 subway parking spaces, of which 18 will be for people with reduced mobility. The total length of the underground parking is estimated at 962 meters and the standard section will include two lanes per direction of traffic of 3.25 meters wide and 5.5 meters of free gauge.
The works are included in the current Investment Plan of the Port of Huelva 2023-2027, in the line called Habilitación Avenida Hispanoamérica, within the action Actuaciones Puerto Ciudad and are part of the strategic line of recovery of spaces to improve the interaction between the port and the city of Huelva.
The project’s justification report states that by means of this undergrounding, the Muelle de Levante will be pedestrianized and linked to the city, “with an intervention that deepens the relationship between two very powerful elements that currently live one behind the other”. In addition, he points out the “need” to provide the future urbanization of parking spaces that “for the achievement of the port-city union, cannot be carried out on the surface”, so that “along with the burial must be carried out subway parking”.
