The Port of Huelva today presented its range of services and connectivity for the fruit and vegetable sector at the Fruit Attraction exhibition in Madrid, where it highlighted all the potential of the Port of Huelva to strengthen its position as an outlet for exports from the agri-food sector in the province and its immediate hinterland.
The event was held at the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Andalusian Regional Government in Hall 9, where the Director of the Port of Huelva, Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio, presented the contribution of the Port of Huelva to the agri-food value chain, which lies in offering specialised infrastructures, first class logistics services and connectivity with Northern Europe, the Canary Islands, Morocco and the Mediterranean area. In this way, the Port of Huelva is located three days by boat from the main European markets (France, United Kingdom and Germany), the destination of the agri-food products of the province and the area of influence of the port. During his presentation, Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio highlighted the Port of Huelva’s commitment to intermodality, promoting maritime and rail modes, as a complement to road, and thus achieving a “high maritime speed”. Likewise, the Port of Huelva has promoted the specialisation of its infrastructures to expand markets, thus becoming a logistics and multimodal node for cold logistics chains.
In this sense, the sustainable Cold Logistics Hub, promoted by the company Frigoríficos Portuarios del Sur, stands out. These facilities are located in the Muelle Sur and are intended for temperature-controlled goods. It is a circular economy project, as it reuses the cold inherent in the regasification of Liquefied Natural Gas, which is produced at the Enagás plant, and achieves a 90% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
