Cepsa is taking a further step towards the circularity of its processes by setting itself the objective of recovering 700 tonnes per year of sludge from the pre-treatment of water for its operations at the La Rábida Energy Park. Through their treatment, the substances present in the water, such as clay, sand, plankton and other microorganisms, will allow this resource to be given a new life in areas such as extensive gardening. The reduction of this sludge will also improve the quality of the water used in the processes, allowing for lower consumption.
Through new technologies, waste co-processing projects and synergies with other companies, the company continues to move towards a zero waste business model. In this sense, Cepsa has undertaken different projects such as the alliance it has with Saint-Gobain Weber to recycle 1,000 tonnes of waste per year that can be used as raw material in the manufacture of industrial mortars for the construction sector.
For Jorge Acitores, director of La Rábida Energy Park: “Our facilities must be a benchmark in the implementation of a new circular production model that minimises the use of virgin raw materials and promotes the use of waste, giving it a second life. Innovations such as the one we are announcing today at the La Rábida Energy Park are an example of the commitment included in our 2030 ‘Positive Motion’ strategy to become a benchmark in the energy transition”.
