The Port of Huelva has renewed its Halal and Kosher certifications for another year, after passing the follow-up audit which accredits to the Muslim and Jewish communities the provision of infrastructures, installations, services and operating procedures to guarantee that they comply with the requirements demanded by these two religious communities in the handling of products during their passage through the port service area, both for the export and import of goods.
Halal certification refers to products and services that are permitted for consumption according to Islamic law, which are listed among others in the Halal Food & Quality certification scheme, with the scope ‘G-Transport, Logistics and Warehousing’. Kosher certification refers to products and services which are permitted for consumption according to Jewish law.
In 2017, the Port of Huelva was the first in Spain to obtain the Halal and Kosher certifications, which have been renewed annually. The fact of having these certifications becomes a competitive advantage for attracting traffic to countries such as the United States or Morocco. It also opens the door to the import and export of agri-food products, cosmetics, fashion, pharmaceutical products and even those related to tourism. With the aim of promoting this type of traffic, the Port of Huelva is applying bonuses up to 40% to the rate of the merchandise of these traffics from the year 2019.
