The project also includes the development of infrastructures at the Muelle de Minerales for its paving and to supply electricity to the tugboats.

The European Union has approved, through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the award of 7.3 million euros to various projects being carried out by the Port of Huelva to improve multimodality and decarbonisation of goods transport.

Specifically, it is the new double ro-ro ramp which is being carried out in the South Wharf with an investment of more than 19.4 million euros. This new double ro-ro ramp will increase the capacity to provide service to shipping companies that operate regular maritime lines specialised in road transport (semi-trailers, vehicles and other intermodal transport units). This investment will favour connections with the Canary Islands, as well as facilitating and accelerating the implementation of new connections to other national and European cabotage destinations and to third countries.

Another action included in the project is the extension of the pavement and electrical power of the Minerals Quay, with an investment of more than 2.7 million euros. This action will enable the Port of Huelva’s tugboats to be supplied with electricity when they are berthed, so that they can disconnect their auxiliary engines with the consequent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
